Gilded Age Lessons

Explores the dramatic economic and social changes that shaped Illinois during the Gilded Age. Through four local case studies: Peotone Mill, the Grange Movement, the Illinois Central Railroad, and the Pullman Strike. Students investigate how agriculture, industry, and labor shaped the identity of the state. This lesson encourages historical thinking and civic understanding by connecting statewide developments to national movements.
